Using MS Word to View 2 Documents at the Same Time

Sometimes when I am editing a Word document, I open another word document to use as a reference.   It's annoying to go back and forth between the documents.  The good news is that Microsoft Word has the ability to show you both screens on your screen using the View Side by Side function.

Follow the following steps to activate the Side-by-Side function in Word.

  1. Click the FILE tab
  2. Select OPEN to open the two documents you want to view on a vertical split screen.
  3. Click the VIEW tab on the Microsoft Word ribbon.
  4. Selectthe VIEW SIDE BY SIDE command on the Window panel of the View tab.
  5. If you want to scroll both documents at the same time, click the "Synchronous Scrolling" button on the View tab.
